I had a dream.

I was standing in a living-room/office setting of colours ranging from yellow, orange, and green. Two young men appeared in the middle of the room. They both looked familiar and seemed acquainted with one another as friends and colleagues. One of them looked downhearted as he starred at the two pictures he was holding. The picture in his left hand represented someone who had kissed his heart and soul while the picture on his right hand represented a lady who according to himself, family and friends, would be a better fit to be walking with him as she was very beautiful in appearance, personality, and character as well as being successful academically and career-wise. It seemed like a choice had already been made, but a dilemma remained. The man then rushed to the restroom where he appeared to be vomiting. I walked up to his friend and asked, ‘Is he ill or is he making himself vomit?’. The answer I received was going in such a roundabout way that I lifted my hand to his face to kindly ask him to pause his merry-go-round story then I asked again ‘Is he unwell or is he making himself vomit?’, ‘He is making himself vomit’ he replied. I was confused at how someone could become so divided and indecisive to the point of making themselves unwell. I walked towards one of the desks, grabbed a pen and paper then started writing. The message on the letter I cannot recall but a feeling of rupture and shame could be summarised by the word, Farewell.

Reflection:

  • This story was titled ‘Faulty departure'. Have you ever been in a situation where a realisation led you to make the first step for your own good and perhaps for the good of others? If yes, how did it feel and how were you impacted?

  • Have you been in a situation where a decision to make affected you more than you thought?
